Hello all

November started with the uploading to Vimeo of two new video art pieces Sparks:

Sparks 2 is being shown in December on the Big Screens in Derby & Leicester as part of their 12 days advent calendar.

Both pieces are an exploration of size, time and sound and ideal for the Big Screen.

Later in November I gave a lecture on Video Art and my own work to Second Year e-media students. The main aim was to introduce the students to a area of art that they may not be familiar with. I provided a historical overview, showed extracts from selected Video Artists and finally screened some of my work and discussed my experiences as a freelancer. The lecture went well and I have been invited back next year.

Finally I have been working with Kevin Ford on a musical collaboration entitled monitor. You can hear selected tracks at:

Hello all

October has already been a busy month.

On Thursday 6th October I was interviewed on BBC Radio Leicester about my moving-image work. A selection was being shown on the Big Screen in Leicester that week and over the weekend. It was my first radio interview and I enjoyed every second of it. Big thanks to the Manager of the Screen Lousie Angell for asking me and my work to be involved.

Then on Wednesday 12th I gave a lecture on the Horror Film to third year degree dance and acting students at Leicester College. I was contacted by their Lecturer Cheryl Wimperis who wanted them to develop work inspired by the genre. It was an enjoyable seminar and the students were enthusiastic and questioning.

I have also been asked to provide advice and guidance to them on how they can include moving-image elements in their performances. Something which I am very excited about. Cheryl who is a dancer and choreographer & I also talked about collaborating on a future project.

Underpass 2011

Hello all

I have just uploaded a new video piece Underpass 2011:

It is not only a continuation & development of some of themes and stylistic approaches which I began in an earlier 'work in progress' piece entitled Underpass, but it also explores other themes and techniques. This final piece offers a variety of readings: so the less I say about it the better. I have already received some interesting comments on the piece and am more than happy to get more.

Lots of things happening at the moment: personal work, possible festival screenings & collaborations.

I will be blogging in more detail later in the month.

Hello all

The month began with the VIP Launch Evening of Format International Photography Festival in Derby on the 3rd March. It was a great atmosphere with inspiring and engaging work on show and a real pleasure to see my moving-image work Formotion & Passengers on one of the digital screens at the QUAD. The festival is on until the 4th April but some work, including mine, is on until May 8th. Sky Arts were there to document the event:

During the month I also collaborated with Dan from Citizen598 on a new project entitled The Greatest Show on Earth. Dan had invited me to help work on generating ideas for the moving-image aspect of the show. It was an enjoyable experience and I look forward to working with Dan again in the near future. Finally i attended the Creative Garden Networking event at Phoenix Square on the 25th March. Another great atmosphere and really good to see the creatives of Leicester displaying their work.

Luminous was screened at Gleam: The Derby Festival of Light from 12th -20th November.

Kevin Ford is developing a soundscape for Luminous as is Sebastian Buccheri, who produced the soundtrack to Dusk. It will be interesting to hear how they respond to the piece.

I am at the development stage for a piece expanding the possibilities of Luminous. Its too early to say too much but the concept includes a dancer or dancers.

Passengers and Formotion have both been accepted for Format International Photography Festival. The event is on from 4th March - 3rd April 2011. More information to follow, until then check out:

Hello all

I continue to work on The Floating Man project: which has resulted in the short video piece Underpass. You can view it on my Videos page. Scouting for other locations: several sites already selected.

Light test No. 1 has evolved in to Luminous, a 5 minute piece. The version on vimeo at the moment is silent: but musician Kevin Ford is working on a soundscape which is near to completion.

I have a new video uploaded to the Videos page entitled Underpass. The soundscape is by Kevin Ford. The video began as an editing exercise to show a person floating through an urban landscape: their feet not touching the ground. The concept developed after I did some research in to a non-fiction book The Mothman Prophecies.
